UAA gymnastics team loses despite strong showing on beam, floor

Despite posting its third-highest overall score this season, the UAA gymnastics team fell to the Utah State Aggies in its dual meet matchup in Logan, Utah on Friday.

The Seawolves edged the Aggies on the balance beam and floor exercise, but their 192.675 total wasn’t enough to overcome Utah State’s 194.925. The Seawolves were missing junior Mackenzie Miller in floor exercise because of an injury.

“We were short-handed on floor tonight, so I’m pleased that we were able to finish so strong in the final two rotations,” UAA coach Tanya Ho said in a press release from the school. “Sophia (Hyderally) and Isabelle (Fox) continued to give us great consistency at the top of our lineup, and Hope (Nelson) came through with her best meet of the season.”

Led by Hyderally (9.850) and Kaylin Mancari (9.825), the Seawolves posted their third-best beam total in program history (48.775).

Freshman Ali Marvel (9.725) posted a team-high on vault, Nelson (9.725) led the Seawolves on bars and Hyderally (9.800) was the highest scorer on floor exercise. Fox, a sophomore, posted a 38.650 in all-around.
