Anchorage mountain runner captures 2nd place in Scotland Skyrunning race

Anchorage mountain runner Ann Penelope Spencer captured second place Sunday in the fifth annual Glen Coe Skyline race in Scotland.

Held on technical terrain with sustained sections of scrambling, the race is 32 miles long with more than 15,500 feet of ascent in the mountains near Kinlochleven.

Victories went to Erik Johannes Huson of Norway in 7 hours, 55 minutes, and Georgia Tindley of Great Britain in 8:30. Tindley was eighth overall and Spencer, who finished in 9:10, was 16th overall in a field of 142 finishers.

The race records belong to Spain’s Kilian Jornet (6:25) and Sweden’s Emelie Forsberg (7:44), the couple who broke the men’s and women’s course records at the 2015 Mount Marathon in Seward.
