Aaron Fletcher kicked off his 100 Miles in May challenge in impressive fashion Saturday.

He knocked out a swift 3.1 miles to win the inaugural Cabin Fever Reliever 5K, finishing 50 seconds ahead of a stride-for-stride duel for runner-up honors at the Chuck Albrecht Fields.

The race, which replaced the Superhero Showdown on this summer’s race calendar, was organized by Skinny Raven in partnership with Healthy Futures.

It helped launch the annual 100 Miles in May challenge, a primary fundraiser for the Healthy Futures nonprofit, whose goal is to teach kids how to live a healthy, active life.

People can still sign up individually or as part of teams for the pledge drive; Fletcher is a member of Dowl Engineering’s team.

The goal is to log 100 or more miles of activity during the month of May — and if you aren’t a runner, there’s a conversion chart for activities like gardening, clam digging and hula hooping. As of Friday, about 2,000 people had signed up.

Saturday’s race drew a field of 165 runners and walkers.

Fletcher, a qualifier for last year’s U.S. Olympic marathon trials, finished well ahead of Brady Burrough and Jerry Ross, who trailed by nearly a minute as they battled for second place.

Both were awarded chip-times of 16:40, with Burrough prevailing by an eyelash.

Women’s winner Michelle Baxter placed seventh overall in 18:47. She was 23 seconds ahead of second-place Ava Earl, whose time of 19:10 was good for 11th overall.
