Eric Flanders paces the field in Anchorage’s Arctic Valley Hill Climb bike race

Eric Flanders won the race to the top of Arctic Valley Road on Saturday in Anchorage, notching the fastest time in the Arctic Valley Hill Climb by finishing in 35 minutes, 25 seconds. The race, part of the Arctic Bicycle Club circuit, sent riders pedaling on 5.9 miles of gravel road with an elevation gain of 2,265 feet.

Owen Ala had the second-fastest time of the day at 37:32, finishing second to Flanders in the Men’s A division. Mike Monterusso had an impressive time in the Master 45+ Men’s division, finishing in 38:33 to win the division with the fourth fastest overall time.

The fastest of the women’s riders was Pam Weiss, who cruised to the top in a time of 54:58 to take the Master 45+ Women’s division.
