Service, South, and Dimond post one-run wins at American Legion state baseball

Service improved to 3-0, and South and Dimond stayed alive following victories Thursday in the American Legion Baseball State Championship at Mulcahy Stadium.

Service defeated previously unbeaten Juneau 4-3, Dimond beat West 5-4 in 13 innings, and South edged Chugiak 2-1 in 10 innings.

Service 4, Juneau 3

Service's Cobey Cupp hit a sacrifice fly to score Ronan Klancher for the game-winning run in the seventh inning to give Juneau its first defeat.

Raleigh Pigg struck out six Juneau batters in seven innings, and he also homered in the first.

Zeb Storie led Juneau with two hits and scored a run.

Dimond 5, West 4 (13 inn.)

A 13-inning elimination game ended with a walk-off sacrifice fly. Kyle Henrickson plated Kobe Vanderwood, helping Dimond win its second straight win-or-go-home game.

Henrickson led all players with three RBIs. Dimond's Jesse Boese tied the game 4-4 in the seventh inning following a West throwing error.

Leland Wilson provided two hits, a pair of runs, and an RBI for West.

South 2, Chugiak 1 (10 inn.)

Derek McGinnis and Josh Costello kept South's tournament run alive with clutch hits in the ninth and 10th innings.

Trailing 1-0 entering the bottom of the ninth, McGinnis stole home in the bottom of the frame. Costello ended the game with a 10th-inning walk-off hit.

South's Terren Sugita and Chugiak's Garrett Nevells each pitched nine innings and struck out eight.
