6 UAA basketball players merit GNAC All-Academic honors

Six UAA basketball players — four women, two men — Tuesday were named to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference's All-Academic teams.

UAA women's seniors Jenna Buchanan, an early childhood education major, and Jessica Madison, a justice major, were honored for the third straight year. Junior teammate Alysha Devine and made the grade for the second year and sophomore Sierra Afoa was honored in her first season of eligibility for the All-Academic team.

UAA men's players Travis Jackson, a junior, and Jackson McTier, a sophomore, were honored. UAF's Heidi Pichler of Anchorage (senior, accounting, 3.95) also was honored.

The UAA women play Western Washington — the only GNAC team to beat the Seawolves this season — at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Alaska Airlines Center before hosting Simon Fraser on Saturday for Senior Day to close the regular season.

Meanwhile, the UAA men travel to Nampa, Idaho to play Northwest Nazarene on Thursday. The team closes the regular season Saturday against Central Washington in Ellensburg, Washington.
