Alaska Airlines Classic: Three Alaska teams advance on first day

The Alaska Airlines Classic tipped off Thursday at West High with two wins by Alaska schools over teams from the Lower 48 and three Alaska teams advancing to Friday's semifinals.

Barrow and East beat their Lower 48 opponents to move on, and West topped Colony 82-70 in an all-Alaska clash in the late game.

The tournament continues Friday and concludes with the championship at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. All games are at West High.

Planet Athlete (Ariz.) 64, Bartlett 52

Planet Athlete's senior-laden team landed in the win column in the tournament's first game.

Jacory Livingston poured in 16 points for the team from Phoenix and Planet Athlete beat Bartlett 64-52.

The Golden Bears kept pace through the first quarter, but Planet Athlete's 42 percent shooting proved too large to overcome.

Bentiu Panoam led Bartlett with a game-high 20 points.

Barrow 72, Longmont Christian (Colo.) 41

Barrow's balanced effort was enough to slow Longmont Christian's one-man wrecking crew and the Whaler's subdued the Longmont, Colorado, team 72-42.

Six Whaler's shot 50 percent or better led by Kamaka Hepa's 14 points on 66 percent shooting from the field.

Trevor Thomas added 16 points and Barrow got 11 each from Travis Adams and Kevin Goodwin.

Antun Maricevic, a 6-foot-9 monster in the post, garnered 28 points and 12 rebounds for the losing squad.

He was one of only three Warriors to score in the game.

East 65, Pro-Vision Academy (Texas) 62

East's Marquis White secured a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds and the Thunderbirds edged Pro-Vision Academy out of Houston, Texas, 65-62.

East led by two at halftime and held on to win the closest game of the day.

Joining White in the scoring column were Alec Canete-Hall (17 points), Moses Miller (16) and Servaun Jenkins (14).

Jamir Coleman had a tournament-high 32 points for Pro-Vision in the loss.

West 82, Colony 70

Da'Zhon Wyche pumped in 29 points and Sean Duffy grabbed 13 rebounds to power West's 82-70 win over Colony in Thursday's only game between two Alaska teams.
