Bilafer, Nero garner top honors in Railbelt football conference

Colony seniors Steven Bilafer and Jordan Nero were named the football players of the year in the Railbelt Conference.

Bilafer a quarterback, was the conference's top pick on offense and Nero, a jack-of-all-trades, was the top pick on defense. Throughout the season Nero played cornerback, linebacker and strong safety for the Knights.

Coaching honors went to Lathrop head coach Rusty Hamm and Colony assistant coach Norm Bouchard.

Railbelt Conference

First-team offense

Wasilla – Jaden Walkemeyer, wide receiver. Lathrop – Ji Daniel Jeong, guard; Anthony Hattal, guard; Garrius Maiden, running back; Ricardo Henry, flanker. Colony – Jordan Nero, running back/wide receiver; Steven Bilafer, quarterback/punter; Jon Pomrenki, wide receiver; Cooper Sant, tackle. West Valley – Brandon Joyner, wide receiver; Gideon Cole, offensive line; Jake Foshee, offensive line.

First-team defense

Wasilla – Austin Sodorff, defensive end; Justin Lee, strong safety; Beau Cork, cornerback; Caleb Drumm, linebacker. Lathrop – Ji Daniel Jeong, guard; Detrale Hardney, defensive end; Scotty McKinstry, middle linebacker. Colony – Jordan Nero, cornerback/linebacker; Cade Havel, outside linebacker; Nolan Martin, middle linebacker; Dawson Nash, outside linebacker. West Valley – Elijah Blackweasel, linebacker; Jordan Silva, defensive tackle; Jonas Post, linebacker.

Lineman player of the year – Ji Daniel Jeong, Lathrop.

Utility player of the year – Garrius Maiden, Lathrop.

Offensive player of the year – Steven Bilafer, Colony.

Defensive player of the year – Jordan Nero, Colony.

Return specialist – Justin Lee, Wasilla.

Punter/kicker – Carson Reed, Wasilla.

Long snapper – Jake Foshee, West Valley.

Coach of the year – Rusty Hamm, Lathrop.

Assistant coach of the year – Norm Bouchard, Colony.
