South 48, Bartlett 45

Balanced scoring helped South fend off Bartlett 48-45 Saturday in a Cook Inlet Conference girls basketball game at Bartlett High.

Isabelle Lada led the way for South with 13 points, and Nani Garner and Kelsey Sweetsir each provided 10 points.

Bartlett's Brandee Hawley, whose 3-point shooting helped her team make it close at the end, claimed scoring honors with a game-high 16 points. Damaiya Ward added 10 for the Golden Bears.

Dimond 53, East 40

The T-birds got off to a slow start on their homecourt and trailed 24-6 after one quarter.

Maya Carle's 15 points and Whitney Shaap's 13 powered Dimond.

Azaria Robinson and Tennae Voliva scored 10 apiece for East.

Chugiak 47, Eagle River 30

Courtney Kuhlmann's 11 points and Kassidy Murfin's 10 points lifted Chugiak past Eagle River 47-30 in a Saturday CIC girls basketball game in Chugiak.

Leading Eagle River were Shade Gopie with 10 points and Michaela Brown with nine.

Grace 40, Kotzebue 7

A stingy defense and 14 points from Annie Vandeweide propelled Grace Christianto a 40-7 triumph Saturday over Kotzebue on the final day of the Elks Basketball Tournament in Valdez.

Sarah Laker and Makenna Shamburger each added seven points for the Grizzlies, who led 7-4 after one quarter but only allowed three points after that.
