Wasilla boys basketball team takes down East in overtime, 87-82

Wasilla boys 87, East 82 (OT)

Daniel Headdings pumped in 33 points and Kobe Brown poured in 26 to lead Wasilla to an 87-82 overtime win over East in a Friday night boys basketball game in Wasilla.

East's Marquis White scored a team-high 27 points and Daon Jones added 17 in the nonconference game.

East played most of the game without Moses Miller, who scored three points before leaving the game in the first quarter with an injury.

Wasilla 40, East 33

The Wasilla girls basketball team outlasted East 40-33 in a tightly contested nonconference girls basketball game Friday in Wasilla.

McKenna Dinkel tossed in nine points to lead Wasilla. East's Tennae Voliva led all scorers with 12 points.

Nikiski girls 42, Grace 40

Nikiski fended off Grace Christian's big fourth-quarter comeback Friday to edge the Grizzlies 42-40 in the Elks Basketball Tournament in Valdez.

Grace Christian outscored the Bulldogs 21-14 in the fourth quarter to make things close.

Kelsey Clark scored a team-high 15 points for Nikiski. Annie VanderWeide's 16 points led the Grizzlies.

South girls 60, West 49

Isabel Babiak's 22 points and Isabelle Lada's 19 points helped South trip West 60-49 Thursday in a Cook Inlet Conference girls basketball game at West.

The Wolverines got a defense spark from Kelsey Sweetsir and Morgan Lash, who had seven and five steals, respectively. Both added in nine points.

West got big games from Nyedol Thor (20 points) and Theyoung Puoy (19).
