The Mat-Su Miners generated three four-run innings Tuesday night to beat the visiting Anchorage Glacier Pilots, 13-6, at Hermon Brothers Field and send the Glacier Pilots to their eighth consecutive loss.

Cameron Frost provided the Miners with a grand slam in the sixth inning of the Alaska Baseball League game. Josh Meyer doubled, tripled and drove in three runs, and Cameron Newell went 2 for 5 with four RBIs and three runs scored.

Seve Romo (3-2) went seven innings for the victory.Glacier Pilots shortstop Michael Pierri hit his first home run of the season, but also made three of Anchorage's five errors.

The National League-leading Miners own a four-game lead on the Glacier Pilots.


The Peninsula Oilers split a doubleheader with the Anchorage Bucs in Kenai on Tuesday, keeping the Bucs one game behind the streaking Fairbanks Goldpanners in the American League.

The Oilers won the first seven-inning game at Seymour Park with a 1-0 victory that hinged on starter Jimmy Nesselt's gem, and the Bucs rallied for four runs in the final two innings of the seven-inning second game to earn a 5-3 win.

Nesselt (3-2), a right-hander, faced just one batter over the minimum, permitted just two hits, didn't walk a batter and struck out three. Bucs left-hander Evan Marinaro (1-2) went six innings, scattered five hits, didn't walk a batter and struck out nine in lowering his earned-run average to 2.16 in five appearances.

The Oilers scored the only run on a bases-loaded double play in the fourth inning.

The Bucs bounced back by scoring two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings of the nightcap. Chane Lynch contributed a two-run single in the sixth. In the seventh, Dylan Butler scored on a wild pitch and Grant Palmer delivered a run-scoring single.

Bucs reliever Devon Stewart pitched the bottom of the seventh for the win. Stewart (4-0) owns a 1.03 ERA in 11 appearances, has no allowed an earned run in 10 of those efforts, and also owns three saves.
