Jerry Ross of Anchorage smashed his own course record Saturday in the scenic Lost Lake Run, lopping 93 seconds off his standard in the 15.75-mile trail run near Seward.

Ross clocked 1 hour, 35 minutes, 17 seconds to demolish his previous record (1:36:50 in 2010) and hold off a strong field of contenders.

Najeeby Quinn seized the women's race in 1:58:24, topping Kristi Waythomas (2:01:34) by more than three minutes.

Brandon Newbould finished second among men in 1:37:42, reigning Mount Marathon champion Eric Strabel claimed third in 1:39:25 and mountain-running stalwart Brent Knight finished fourth in 1:40:51.

Matias Saari, 40, who six days previous won the Big Wild Life Marathon in Anchorage and has run a string of demanding races in the last two months, finished fifth in 1:44:13, to thrash the men's 40-49 age-group record. The previous mark was Warren Hancock's 1:48:03 last year.

Ross, Newbould, Strabel and Knight obliterated the field in the open team competition with a combined time of 6:33:12, nearly 100 minutes faster than the runner-up.

The annual race, a fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, featured 640 finishers.
