Chugiak girls enjoy perfect start to cross-country season

Chugiak girls are perfect

Chugiak claimed the top five spots in the girls race to post a perfect team score and Eagle River took the top four spots in the boys race Saturday at a season-opening cross-country meet at the Beach Lake trails in Chugiak.

Chugiak's Emma Sees set the pace for the girls, recording a time of 12 minutes, 27.5 seconds in the 3-kilometer race. She was four seconds ahead of teammate Brynn Kruchoski.

Nick Carl of Eagle River was the top boy in 10:42.8, nearly 10 seconds ahead of teammate Michael Maddox.

Dimond runners dominate

A finish-line duel between Dimond runners provided drama in a season-opening cross country meet at Kincaid Park.

Kylie Judd edged Ruth Cvancara to win the girls 3-kilometer race. Both runners posted times of 12 minutes, 12 seconds.

In the boys race, Cameron Sheldon of Dimond breezed to a 15-second victory in 10:30.

Dimond swept the team titles in the three-team meet that also included Service and East.

West High's Elizabeth Mans beat teammate Mimi Allen by .01 of a second Saturday to capture the girls title in a season-opening cross country meet at Kincaid Park.

Mans finished the 3-kilometer race in 13:14.83, a heartbeat ahead of Allen (13:14.84).

Finn Walker of West cruised to the boys victory to help the Eagles sweep the team titles in the meet against South and Bartlett.

Walker finished in 9:51.60, nearly 15 seconds faster than anyone else.
