Grace, ACS pick up volleyball victories

Grace Christian and Anchorage Christian warmed up for a Thursday volleyball showdown by winning matches Tuesday night in Anchorage.

Grace Christian took down Houston in three sets 25-11, 25-15, 25-21, and ACS dispatched Redington in four sets 19-25, 28-26, 26-24, 25-13.

It was Senior Night for Grace Christian, and a couple of seniors came up big for the Grizzlies — Annie VanderWeide blasted 21 kills and Kaitlin Cowell racked up 18 assists. Sophomore Jordyn Liedike added five blocks and three kills.

Houston was led by Aspen Ruth's 10 kills and Amanda Lorenzo's three aces.

ACS will host the Grizzlies on Thursday night.

East 3, Colony 1

Fueled by 16 aces — including four apiece by Daisy Page and Kyla Liufao — the East T-birds picked up a nonconference volleyball win Monday night at Colony High.

East downed the Knights 25-14, 25-17, 18-25, 25-14 in the final week of regular-season play.

Page's 11 kills and 20 digs led the T-birds. Leona Tau'ese added 26 digs, Karlee Lynx provided nine kills and eight digs and Liufao added nine kills and eight digs for East.

Eva Stephens slapped a match-high 13 kills and put up five blocks to lead Colony. Mikara Klawitter added eight kills and nine digs and Haylee Duguid had 11 digs.
