South shooter sets standard at A1 Shoot Off

Maya Boyle of South fired a 588 to win Saturday's A1 Shoot Off riflery meet at Dimond High.

The meet, sanctioned by the Civilian Marksmanship Program, is a three-position air rifle competition featuring 16 shooters — the top boy and top girl from each of the Cook Inlet Conference's eight high schools. Each participant shoots from the prone, standing and kneeling positions.

West's Christian Williams scored a pair of perfect 100s in the prone position to grab a share of third place with a score of 573.

Ahead of him were Boyle and Service's Clara Veelman, who placed second with a 581.

Amy Allgyer of West matched Williams with a 573 to give the girls three of the top four spots. Riflery is one of the only high school sports where boys and girls compete against each other.

The CIC wraps up the season Dec. 2 with the conference championships at West High.
