Prep hockey: Peninsula teams take 2 of 3 against Anchorage foes

Eagle River 3, Soldotna 0

Eagle River did all of its scoring with time running out Thursday in a 3-0 nonconference hockey victory over Soldotna at the McDonald Center.

The Wolves' goals came with 31 seconds left in the first period, with 26 seconds left in the second period and with 68 seconds left in the third period.

Josh Linn struck twice – once into an empty net – and Christian Brooks scored once for Eagle River.

Brendan Whetsell made 10 saves for the shutout. Billy Yoder stopped 28 shots for the Stars.

Kenai 8, Bartlett 7

Levi Mese struck twice in the third period to spark Kenai Central's come-from-behind victory over Bartlett in a nonconference hockey game Thursday at Ben Boeke Arena.

The Kardinals outscored Bartlett 4-2 in the third period, with Mese's game-winner coming with 66 seconds left.

Mese finished with a hat trick. Jordan Knutson scored two goals in support of a 34-save performance by Ryan Williams.

Cody Bell racked up four goals for Bartlett, which got 16 saves from Guy Hendrickson and a goal and three assists from Brad Mackin.

Homer 6, East 4

Lee Lowe and Ethan Pitzman each scored twice Thursday at Ben Boeke Arena to carry the Homer hockey team to a 6-4 nonconference win over the East T-birds.

Lowe handed out two assists and Pitzman had one for the Mariners.

East outshot Homer 27-22, but Homer goaltender Hunter Warren made 23 saves.

East got a hat trick from Nicholas Eddens, who also provided an assist.
