Prep basketball: West boys triumph; Wasilla girls advance in Dimond tourney

West boys swamp Colony

All 12 players scored for the West Eagles in a 70-55 nonconference boys basketball game Thursday at Colony High.

Justin Tovio led the balanced attack with 11 points. Joey Barranco and Joel Martinez each added nine.

Colony's Sullivan Menard led all scorers with 19 points.

Lady Lynx Prep Shootout

Top-ranked Wasilla moved into the semifinals of the 19th annual Lady Lynx Prep Shootout by coasting past Bartlett on Thursday.

The Warriors beat Bartlett 64-25 in the winners' bracket of the 16-team tournament. No other scores from that bracket were reported.

In the losers' bracket, South, Soldotna, Point Hope and West Valley all claimed victories. South edged Kenai 35-34, Point Hope upended Thunder Mountain 56-33 Soldotna edged Palmer 46-40 and West Valley topped the Dimond JVs 58-53.

The tournament began Wednesday with eight games. The winners moved into the gold bracket, which will decide a champion Saturday with a 6 p.m. title game, and the losers moved into the maroon bracket, which wraps up with a 2 p.m. championship game Saturday.

Wasilla boys trip Cougars

In a make-up championship game for the Service Tip Off tournament, Wasilla defeated Service 58-47 on Wednesday behind 28 points from Reilly Devine.

Devine earned tournament MVP honors.

Henry Helgeson paced Service with 24 points.
