Prep basketball: Nikiski, Sitka to meet in Lady Grizzly Classic championship

Sitka and Nikiski are set to meet in the Lady Grizzly Classic championship after storming past their semifinals opponents on Friday.

Sitka rolled past Nom 54-33 and Nikiski repelled Point Hope 71-42.

Bethany Carstens racked up 25 points to lead Nikiski, which blew open the game in the second half after leading by nine at halftime and one at the end of the first quarter.

Tatum Bayne led three Sitka players in double figures in the Wolves' victory.

In consolation play, tournament host Grace Christian got back on track with a 27-24 win over Monroe Catholic. Annie VanderWeide supplied more than half of the Grizzlies' points, finishing with 14.

Kotzebue overpowered Homer 45-19 in the other consolation game.

The three-day tournament concludes Saturday at Grace Christian with the championship set for 3:15 p.m.

ACS basketball teams doom Seward

The Anchorage Christian girls and boys basketball teams rolled past Seward in Friday games at ACS.

Destiny Reimers scored 11 of her game-high 16 points in the second half to boost the ACS girls past Seward, 43-36.

The Lions led 24-9 at halftime and held on in the second half.

Ayla Lapinskas led Seward with all of her 14 points coming in the second half.

Chaunice Carr added 12 points for ACS.

In the boys game, four Lions reached double figures and ACS cruised past Seward 82-39.

Orlando Lozano (13 points), Collin Smallwood (12), Jason Cho (10) and Danico Guzman (10) led the Lions' balanced attack.

Nik Pahno chipped in 12 points for Seward.
