2A girls: Bristol Bay, last year's runner-up, soars into semifinals

Bristol Bay, the runner-up a year ago, cruised to a first-round victory Thursday in its effort to return to the title game of the Class 2A girls basketball tournament at the Alaska Airlines Center.

The Angels limited Chevak to five points in the second quarter to grab a 73-30 win. They'll be joined in the semifinals by Glennallen, Point Hope and Nenana.

Sharon Hansen and Anna Hansen each poured in 22 points for Bristol Bay. Sharon added 11 rebounds and six assists and Anna added eight rebounds.

Rylie Lyon, the 2A Player of the Year, filled the stat sheet for the Angels with 12 points, nine rebounds and six assists.

Thomasina Tall's eight points topped Chevak.

In other games:

Glennallen 54, Craig 27: A big second half carried Glennallen, which limited Craig to four points after halftime.

The Panthers trailed 23-16 at the half but took control in the second half, outscoring Craig 38-4.

Sierra Virgin and Tamra Jones scored 15 points apiece and combined for 11 rebounds for Glennallen.

Ashley Hansen tossed in 11 points to lead Craig.

Point Hope 53, Metlakatka 48: Point Hope recovered from an eight-point, first-quarter deficit to escape with the win.

Jordyn Lane's 18 points and Nichole Hank's 14 points propelled the Harpoonerettes, who also got eight points and nine rebounds from Dolly Hank.

Three-point shooting kept Metlakatla in the game. Marissa Yliniemi sank five en route to a 17 points and Tenisha Nelson hit four for 12 points. Alexis Russell joined them in double figures with 15 points.

Point Hope outscored Metlakatla 28-10 in the second quarter to claim a 34-24 lead at the half. The game remained close throughout the second half.

Nenana 50, Dillingham 35: Aquinnah Tremblay racked up a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds to spark Nenana.

Ashley Agwiak chipped in 13 points and six rebounds for winners, who led 32-15 at the half.

Britney Dray's seven points topped Dillingham.
