CIC softball: Tourney wins for South, Dimond, Service, East

The top two seeds crushed their opponents Tuesday in the opening round the Cook Inlet Conference softball tournament.

Top-seeded South routed eight-seeded Bartlett 16-1 and second-seeded Dimond shut out seventh-seeded Eagle River 12-0.

In the other games, fifth-seeded Service topped fourth-seeded Chugiak 10-5 in the only upset of the day and third-seeded East beat sixth-seeded West 9-6.

South's Danni Desjarlais went 3 for 3 with three runs and an RBI to lead the Wolverines, who plated nine batters.

South pitcher Emma Kleven allowed one run and scored three.

Dimond's Hailey Shangin drove in four runs and Katie Hanson allowed one hit in five innings for the Lynx in their win.

Hanson struck out four in the game at Albrecht Fields. Shangin was 3 for 3 and teammate Mikeala Lawrence was 2 for 3 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs.
