Bartlett football team tumbles on hot night in California

The Bartlett Golden Bears got beat in the heat Friday night in Chico, California, where temperatures topped 100 degrees.

The Pleasant Valley Vikings, California's defending Division 4AA champion, used a hot start and a late touchdown to subdue the Golden Bears 41-26.

Pleasant Valley rode three touchdown passes from quarterback Tanner Hughes to a 22-14 halftime lead and scored twice in the opening eight minutes of the second half to surge to a 34-14 lead.

Bartlett (2-2) battled back with two straight touchdown runs from Hunter Cargill, the second of which trimmed the Pleasant Valley lead to 34-26 with just under five minutes to play.

The Vikings (1-1) took nearly four minutes off the clock before putting the game out of reach with a touchdown at the 1:19 mark.
