Flag football: West rallies, Dimond, Chugiak post shutouts

West 12, East 7

Rebecca Syrup and Zarinah Cruz connected for the go-ahead touchdown in the third quarter and the Eagles held on in the fourth quarter to defeat East, 12-7 in a Cook Inlet Conference flag football game Wednesday at West.

Syrup went 9 of 23 for 125 yards with one interception and two touchdown passes to lead the Eagles, who trailed 7-6 at halftime.

Isabella Roberts compiled 130 yards of offense and caught a 24-yard TD in the second quarter.

Linebacker Maya Baquiran spearheaded the West defense with 11 pulls, two for loss, and one blocked pass. Denice Saetern added seven pulls.

The T-Birds were led by Emma Butcher with a big interception on a West drive at the 1-yard line and five flag pulls.

On offense, East's Fua Filoialii rushed nine times for 60 yards, including a 15-yard TD. She also went 7 of 14 passing for 121 yards.

Dimond 55, Eagle River 0

Kristine Cristobal scurried for 100 yards and two touchdowns and Dimond overran Eagle River 55-0 in a Wednesday CIC flag football matchup at Eagle River.

Victoria Johansen added 76 rushing yards and two touchdowns on two carries.

Hahna Wood snagged a 15-yard interception return for a touchdown.

The West and Dimond wins set up a Saturday matchup between two undefeated teams when the Eagles face the Lynx on Saturday at Dimond.

Chugiak 21, Service 0

Chasity Horn scored two touchdowns and the Chugiak defense held Service scoreless in a 21-0 Mustangs' flag football win on Wednesday.

Chugiak quarterback Eva Palmer rushed for one touchdown and passed for 160 yards in the CIC game at Chugiak.

Carson Head led the Chugiak defense with an interception.

Service was led by Ashlynn Noethlich (6 flag pulls, 1 passed defended) and Jocelyn Chanonto (10 pulls, 1 pass defended).
