Prep tennis: Eagles squeak past Wolves

In a close match that saw three matches decided by third-set tiebreakers, the West Eagles edged Eagle River Wolves 5-4 Friday in Cook Inlet Conference tennis action.

Eagle River won two of the three tiebreakers — Will Michener and Sterling Retzlaff won their doubles match by outscoring Sam Hiratsuka and Parker Pickett 11-9 and Brendan Miles took down West's Robby Sedwick.

The West doubles team of Alison Butcher and Jessie Zimmer took a 10-7 win in the tiebreaker to beat Eagles River's Sina Schmid and Riley Sanchez.

Boys single No. 1 — Corin Katzke (West) d. Chase MaGraw (ER) 6-2, 6-4.

Boys singles No. 2 — Brendan Miles (ER) d. Robby Sedwick (West) 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8).

Girls singles No. 1 — Savannah Paull (West) d. Caitlin Zoleske (ER) 6-0, 6-0.

Girls singles No. 2 — Aieleen Kim (West) d. Melody Musick (ER) 6-0, retired.

Boys Doubles No. 1 — Raymond Musick/ Jilito Ramos (ER) d. Theodore Bahr/ Kelly Hase (West) 6-3, 6-2.

Boys Doubles No. 2 — Will Michener/Sterling Retzlaff (ER) d. Sam Hiratsuka/ Parker Pickett (West) 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (11-9).

Girls Doubles No. 1 — Kali Spencer/Alexia Canado (ER) d. Natalie Fraser/Sydney Bidwell (West) 6-3, 6-0.

Girls Doubles No. 2 — Jessie Zimmer/Alison Butcher (West) d. Sina Schmid/Riley Sanchez (ER) 3-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-7).

Mixed Doubles — Chris Brandeberry/Kristina Yu (West) d. Taylor Gongliewski/Naomi Shaw (ER) 6-0, 6-1.
