Bartlett, East football teams to battle for East Side Boot, CIC supremacy

The top two football teams in the Cook Inlet Conference will battle Saturday for the spot atop the conference standings and possession of the East Side Boot traveling trophy.

Bartlett (3-2, 2-0 CIC) and East (4-1, 2-0), ranked third and fourth respectively in the Alaska Sports Broadcasting Network Division I poll, will hit the gridiron in a rivalry showdown at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bartlett.

Anchorage's two east-side schools have played for the East Side Boot every year since 2002 in honor of East all-state defensive lineman Aanooali "Auno" Filoialli, who died in a car accident. The trophy includes a bronzed cleat of Filoialli's on top.

East owns an 8-7 series lead, but Bartlett has won the last four contests.

This season, the T-birds have won four straight games since falling to Chugiak in their opener.

Bartlett's two losses were to Division I No. 1 Colony and Pleasant Valley of California.

In other games, three Alaska teams will try to stay undefeated this weekend. Chugiak, Colony and Soldotna are all 5-0 this season.
