Power play carries Eagle River past East, 4-2

Nat Nielson scored a goal and an assist Thursday to fuel Eagle River's 4-2 win over East in a Cook Inlet Conference hockey game at Ben Boeke Ice Arena.

Nielson struck twice on the power play to give Eagle River a 2-0 lead after one period. Austin Linn added a second-period power-play goal to make it 3-0.

East cut the lead to 3-2 midway through the third period with two straight goals by Nicholas Eddens. But Eagle River sealed the win with a Michael Maddox empty-net goal with 26 seconds left.

West 1, Homer 0

Sawyer Courier scored the only goal of the game with 56 seconds left in the first period Thursday, lifting the West Eagles past Homer 1-0 in a nonconference game at Ben Boeke Ice Arena.

Courier's power-play goal was one of 22 shots on goal by the Eagles. Homer managed 16.
