Tok knocks off defending champ Petersburg in 2A boys hoops

A new champion is guaranteed at the Class 2A boy basketball tournament.

Tok took down defending champion Petersburg 43-32 in Thursday's first round at Sullivan Arena.

Metlakatla swamped Bristol Bay 59-34, and Unalakleet tripped Cordova 53-36 in other first-round games.  Unalaska met Hooper Bay in the late game.

Tok 43, Petersburg 32: Tok held Petersburg to three points in the second quarter to grab a commanding 22-10 halftime lead.

Shawn Frank and Revyn Almquist-Corgill filled the stat sheet for the Wolverines. Frank chalked up 13 points, six rebounds, two blocks and two assists, and Almquist-Corgill chipped in 12 points, five steals and five rebounds.

Petersburg got a boost from Gunnar Payne's 11 rebounds and Dale Strong's 12 points.

Metlakatla 59, Bristol Bay 34: A big first quarter made the difference for the Chiefs, who raced to a 21-6 lead and forced Bristol Bay to play catch-up the rest of the game.

Conrad Hudson posted a big double-double and Danny Marsden drained five 3-pointers for Metlakatla. Hudson supplied 17 points and 14 rebounds, and Marsden scored a game-high 21 points.

Kaleb Hill sparked Bristol Bay with 18 points, six rebounds and four assists.

Unalakleet 53, Cordova 36: Aidan Ivanoff and Arctic Ivanoff helped the Wolf Pack triumph.

Aidan drained four of eight shots from 3-point en route to a game-high 22 points to go along with a game-high 10 rebounds. Arctic chipped in 14 points, eight rebounds and five steals.

Cordova's Cody Sjostedt led his team with 12 points and six rebounds.
