Dimond, Service pick up volleyball sweeps

Two days after cracking the top 10 in USA Today's regional high school volleyball rankings, the Dimond Lynx sailed past Chugiak in three sets Friday night in a Cook Inlet Conference match at Chugiak.

The Lynx, who won 25-20, 25-9, 25-14, are the No. 9 team in USA Today's Region 10 weekly rankings, which includes teams from six states – Alaska, Hawaii, Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana.

Dimond's win over Chugiak came despite a double-double from Sophia Lestina, who had 10 kills and 12 digs to lead the Mustangs. Reyna Moore added14 digs and Kaitlyn Eastman had nine digs and three aces for Chugiak.

Service 3, East 0

Isabell Watkins provided eight kills and four blocks and Megan Mathews chipped in six kills and three blocks to spark Service's sweep of East.

Carly Burlington pounded a team-high nine kills and Alexis Bates had a team-high 18 digs for the Cougars, who got another 13 digs from Grace Wells in their 25-20, 25-20, 25-22 victory.

East's Precilla Fagafaga delivered match-highs of 13 kills and 19 digs. Precious Fagafaga also had 19 digs, while Eta Manu and Khadijah Morgan combined for 15 kills for the T-birds.
