West-Bartlett match will decide CIC’s 3rd state volleyball team

Bartlett and West will square off Saturday at 2 p.m. to see which team will play in next week's Class 4A state volleyball tournament.

Bartlett defeated Service in four sets and West upset third-seeded Chugiak in three sets Friday to stay alive in the Cook Inlet Conference tournament at Service High.

In the day's only other match, Dimond swept South to sail into Saturday 6 p.m. championship match.

At 4 p.m., South will play the winner of the Bartlett-West match for a chance to meet Dimond in the title game.

Dimond, the tournament's top seed after going 14-0 in the CIC's regular season, cruised past second-seeded South 25-18, 25-17, 25-15 in Friday's winners-bracket match.

Erin Doner led the Wolverines with eight kills, nine digs and two blocks. Kylie Hurd added 20 digs and two aces, Makenna Besch chipped in four kills and two blocks and Megan Petersen had 11 digs.

Earlier, fifth-seeded Bartlett rallied for a 20-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-17 victory over sixth-seeded Service and fourth-seeded West flattened Chugiak 25-12, 25-17, 25-16 in elimination matches.

Saturday's 2 p.m. match will mark the second meeting between West and Bartlett in the tournament. In Tuesday's opening round, Bartlett stopped the Eagles 25-19, 25-19, 25-23.
