South wrestlers rule the mats at Lancer Smith Invitational

The South Wolverines won half of the individual championship while cruising to the team championship Saturday at the Lancer Smith Invitational, one of the state's premier tournaments.

More than 40 teams from across Alaska competed in the two-day meet at Wasilla's Menard Center. None could keep up with the Wolverines.

South scored 268 points to distance itself from second-place Colony (219.5) and third-place Lathrop (183). Wasilla placed fourth with 139 points and Bethel was fifth with 97.5.

The Wolverines advanced nine wrestlers to the finals and came away with seven champions — Adam Concepcion (103 pounds), Aedyn Concepcion (112), Niko Mayo (125), Jacob Shack (130), Riley Harris (135), Christian Hudson (152), Jacob Anderson (171).

Also claiming championships were Colony's Aidan Ehmann (119 pounds) and Rush Fannon (140), Wasilla's Sterling Uhlenhake (145), Bethel's Hayden Lieb (160), North Pole's Bradley Antesberger (189), Soldotna's Aaron Faletoi (215) and West's Poe Vaafuti (285).
