5 teams battle for first place in CIC hockey

Anchorage high school hockey teams get one more chance to make a move in the conference standings before beginning a long holiday hiatus.

Three games are on tap Thursday in the Cook Inlet Conference, the final games before a break that will last more than two weeks.

Five of the CIC’s eight teams are fighting for first place. Chugiak and Eagle River shared the lead Wednesday afternoon with 12 points apiece, but a third team was poised to join them by the end of the day.

Dimond and South met Wednesday night at Ben Boeke Arena, and unless the game ends in a tie, the winner will also have 12 points. Entering Wednesday’s action, Dimond, South and Service sat in third place with 10 points apiece.

Chugiak’s 8-2 win over West on Tuesday was its third straight, a run that included a 2-0 victory Saturday over rival Eagle River.

Trailing the top five in the standings are West with six points, East with four points and Bartlett with no points. Teams register two points for every win.

Anchorage hockey teams are scheduled to resume play Jan. 8.
