Sparked by tournament MVPs Destiny Reimers and Danilo Guzman, Anchorage Christian captured both championships in the ACS Invitational basketball tournament on Saturday.
The girls romped past Kenai Central 80-27 and the boys beat Valdez 66-53.
Five players hit double figures for the ACS girls, an effort led by Mykaila Pickard’s 16 points. Jordan Todd contributed a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds and Reimers came close with 10 points and nine rebounds.
In the boys championship game, Guzman dropped in 20 points. Orlando Lozano (18 points) and Demarcus Hall-Scrivner (16) each hit four 3-pointers for the Lions.
Sixteen teams — eight girls, eight boys — competed in the three-day tournament.
In earlier girls games:
— Nikiski took third place with a 44-35 victory over Barrow. Bethany Carstens’ 17 points led the winners.
— Kiana Kriska’s 21 points lifted Hutchison past Kotzebue 48-45 in the fourth-place game.
— First Christian Academy of Florida, whose boys and girls teams were winless on the first two days of play, broke into the win column to capture seventh place with a 27-25 victory over Eielson.
In other boys games:
— Barrow held off a late charge by Eielson to grab third place with a 61-59 triumph. Brendan Matthews was 7 of 12 from 3-point land on his way to 31 points for Barrow, while DeAndre Ford (13 points, 10 rebounds) and Matthew Scaarboro (12 points, 10 rebounds) powered the Ravens.
— Hutchison withstood 27 points from Kenai Central’s Adam Trujillo to claim fourth place with a 57-53 win. Dieon Frank scored 18 points to lead a trio of double-figure scorers for the Hawks.
— Soldotna’s Brock Kent tallied 10 points to lead a balanced scoring attack in a 50-8 triumph over First Christian Academy in the seventh-place game.
