South-Bartlett takes down Dimond-West to win girls hockey championship

Nicole Ness scored two goals and Amber Steinhilpert added another Saturday to power South-Bartlett’s victory in the championship game of the Anchorage high school girls hockey league.

Goaltender Carter Nelson stopped nine shots to help South-Bartlett defeat Dimond-West 3-1 at Ben Boeke Arena.

It was South-Bartlett’s first title since 2010.

Dimond-West, which got its lone goal when Hannah Gross scored with 16 seconds remaining in the first period, was making its 10th straight appearance in the championship game. Its last title came in 2017.

Though the game marked the end of the season for the four-team league, players will gather Monday night at Sullivan Arena for a 7:30 p.m. all-star game. Admission is free.
