The Dimond Lady Lynx Prep Shootout, one of the season’s biggest regular-season girls basketball tournaments, tipped off Wednesday at Dimond High. It will end Saturday, possibly with a rematch of the last three Class 4A state championship games.

Dimond and Wasilla are among 16 teams in the 21st annual tournament. They have met in three straight state championship games, with Wasilla winning in 2016 and 2017 and Dimond taking the title last year. When bracket-style play begins Thursday, they’ll be on opposite ends of the Gold bracket, which means they could meet for the Lady Lynx title Saturday.

Also in the tournament is Anchorage Christian, the reigning Class 3A state champion. Thursday’s action begins at 2:45 p.m. with a meeting of state champs — Wasilla versus ACS. Dimond will face Soldotna at 8 p.m.

Wednesday’s eight games decided which brackets teams will play in for the final three days of the four-day tournament. The winners advanced to the Gold championship bracket and will play in Dimond’s main gym; the losers dropped into the Maroon consolation bracket and will play in the auxiliary gym.

On Saturday, championship games and third-place games for both brackets will be played in the main gym, with the Maroon title game at 2 p.m. and the Gold bracket game at 6 p.m.
