South, Dimond go undefeated in pool play at state softball tournament

South and Dimond posted undefeated records during pool play Thursday at the state high school softball tournament at Cartee Field, with the Lynx winning the two closest Division I games of the day to top their pool.

Dimond outlasted Chugiak 9-6 and West Valley 14-9 to win its pool. In the other pool, South breezed past Wasilla 14-2 and upended defending champion East 13-3.

In Division II play, Sitka and Ketchikan both went 2-0 to top their respective pools.

Bracket play begins at 10 a.m. Friday at Cartee Field. The championship games are scheduled for Saturday afternoon, with the Division II game set for 2:45 p.m. and the Division I game scheduled for 5 p.m.
