The two teams that clashed in last year’s Cook Inlet Conference flag football championship game are 2-0 after the first week of the season.

Dimond downed West 26-6 in last season’s title game, and on Saturday both registered shutouts. Dimond edged East 6-0 on Skyer Coleman’s 22-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, and West blanked Bartlett 24-0 behind two touchdowns from Ta’zhay Wyche and one from Ariana Harris.

Dimond’s win included interceptions by Harlie Lewallen and Alaina Bentley and five flag pulls by Kana Mateaki. Coleman finished with 95 rushing yards and Kristine Cristobal rushed for 131 on 14 carries.

West’s shutout was keyed by Morgan Tullos, who had eight flag pulls. Wyche rushed for 93 yards and Lupe’lani Vaaia passed for 85 yards.

On Thursday, West opened with an 18-13 victory over Chugiak and Dimond took a 13-0 win over Service. In the only other game reported this week, Bartlett tripped Eagle River 25-0 on Thursday behind two touchdowns apiece from Taejah Taylor and Saravi Facine.
