The Craig Panthers and Tanalian Lynx captured state volleyball championships Saturday at Dimond High.

Craig claimed the Class 2A state title by beating Unalaska in a five-set finale, and Tanalian repeated as the Mixed Six champion by fending off Gustavus in five sets.

In the 2A title match, Unalaska won two of the first three sets but the Panthers capped a 4-0 run through the tournament by taking the final two sets for a 25-22, 10-25, 11-25, 25-22, 15-9 victory. It was Craig’s first state title since 2016.

While Craig came through the winners bracket, Unalaska lost its first-round match and had to fight back through the losers bracket. Unalaska won three matches Friday and knocked off Klawock on Saturday to advance to the championship match.

In the Mixed Six coed tournament, Tanalian won its second straight state title by holding off Gustavus, 25-20, 20-25, 25-19, 18-25, 15-13.

Tanalian was 5-0 in tournament play. Gustavus, which dropped into the losers bracket on Thursday, was 6-2 and had to win three times Friday and get past Nikolaevsk and Kalskag on Saturday to earn a shot at the Lynx.
