Dimond Lynx finish strong to claim Alaska Prep Shootout championship

Isaiah Moses and Jaron Carle drilled four 3-pointers apiece and Isaiah Grant and Zach Jenkins each pulled down nine rebounds to carry the Dimond Lynx past West Valley in Saturday’s championship game of the Alaska Prep Shootout at Dimond High.

After falling behind early, the Lynx owned the final three quarters to win 55-36.

Moses, who scored 63 points in Dimond’s first two games of the three-day tournament, finished with 23 points, five assists and three steals. Carle added 12 points and Grant had 10.

West Valley charged to a 15-10 lead in the first quarter but was silenced after that. The Lynx outscored the Wolfpack 45-21 the rest of the way.

In earlier games, Grace Christin claimed third place by beating Wasilla 41-36, Palmer took fourth place by stopping Juneau 58-52 and Chugiak placed seventh with a 61-41 win over Kodiak.

Balanced scoring and good free-throw shooting carried the Grizzlies, who raced to a 15-7 lead in the first quarter and led 28-17 at the half. Nathan Ivanoff, Kayden Ingram-Lamebull and Luke Lentfer were a combined 12 of 13 from the foul line.

Palmer outscored Juneau 22-14 in the fourth quarter to get its win, and Chugiak prospered behind 18 points apiece from Owen Lewis and Austin Harr.
