South and West, last year’s co-champions, open tennis season on a good note

The South Wolverines and West Eagles, co-champions of last year’s state tennis meet, opened the new season with victories last week.

South defeated Bartlett 9-0 and eked out a 5-4 win over Eagle River, and West scored 9-0 shutouts of Bartlett and Chugiak.

In other action, Service defeated East 9-0. No other results were reported.

The season continues with matches every day except Sunday until the end of the regular season Sept. 26.
