Clutch tiebreaker victories carry Service tennis team past Dimond

The Service Cougars won two tiebreakers Saturday on their way to a 5-4 Cook Inlet Conference tennis victory over the Dimond Lynx.

Nolan Beeler won a 14-12 tiebreaker in a boys singles match, and the boys doubles team of Zach Chang and Rudy Schumacher won a 10-7 tiebreaker to propel the Cougars.

Service pulled out a close 5-4 win over Eagle River in a meet highlighted by three tiebreakers, including two that went Eagle River’s way.

Melody Musick won a 12-10 tiebreaker in girls singles and the girls doubles team of Sarah von Luhtre and Evelyn Montero won a 10-8 tiebreaker for the Wolves. Service’s Ben Broyles and Toby Lochner earned a 10-3 win in the boys doubles tiebreaker.

Two doubles matches needed tiebreakers in West’s triumph over Dimond.

Sharon Kim and Eva Lief won a 10-4 tiebreaker for West in a girls double match, and Dimond got its only win when Will Fagerstrom and Noah Kim won a boys doubles match by taking a 10-4 tiebreaker.

Dimond took seven matches in straight sets and two by default in a win over Chugiak. In the meet’s closest math, C.J. Reid and Carson Hand eked out a 7-5 win in the first set of their boys doubles before breezing to a 6-0 win in the second set.
