Anchorage’s high school tennis teams speed toward the postseason

Tennis was the Anchorage School District’s first sport to return to competition after a long intermission caused by the pandemic, and tennis will be the first sport in the city to wrap up the regular season.

Saturday marks the final regular-season matches in the Cook Inlet Conference, barring any makeup-meets required early next week.

It’s been a fast season, one that began Sept. 10 and proceeded at breakneck speed for three weeks, with at least one meet scheduled on every day except Sundays.

Teams will spend the early part of next week practicing for the Oct. 2-3 CIC championships at the Alaska Club East. The state tournament is the week after that.

Dimond 7, Bartlett 2

A girls doubles match produced drama Wednesday in Dimond’s 7-2 win over Bartlett in a meet at the Alaska Club East.

Sally Yu and Mira Olds of Dimond held off Anna Shipman and Haley Chadwich of Bartlett 7-5, 7-6 to give the Lynx a sweep of the doubles matches.
