Chugiak’s Earnhart wins again and West’s Donley grabs her 1st state title at high school ski championships

Michael Earnhart of Chugiak won his second state skiing championship and Quincy Donley of West won her first title Friday at the ASAA state cross-country championships at Government Peak.

Earnhart collected his second victory in as many days by topping the boys 10-kilometer freestyle race by 12.3 seconds.

Donley became a first-time state champ by winning the girls 7.5K race by 6.6 seconds.

Skimeister titles went to Earnhart and Service High’s Meredith Schwartz, the winner of Thursday’s classic race and the third-place finisher in the skate race.

Donley, who placed 13th Thursday, posted a time of 23 minutes, 38.9 seconds. Palmer’s Katey Houser was next in 23:45.5, followed by Schwartz in 24:04.0.

Schwartz led a 3-4-5 finish for the Cougars. Tatum Witter was fourth and Marit Flora fifth.

The Service boys went 2-3-4 for the second day in a row.

Earnhart set the pace in 25:40.5, and Zander Maurer of Service -- last season’s Skimeister -- was second in 25:52.8, more than a minute ahead of teammates Aaron Power (3rd place) and Joel Power (4th place).

The championships end Saturday with relay races at Government Peak.
