CIC basketball tournament tips off Tuesday with state tournament berths at stake

State tournaments are at stake for everyone and perfect records are on the line for the East High boys and Bartlett High girls at this week’s Cook Inlet Conference basketball tournament.

The top two teams from each bracket will gain spots in the Class 4A state tournament March 25-27 in the Valley.

Play begins Tuesday with elimination games at four different schools. Other teams received byes in Thursday and Friday games.

The championship games are Saturday night at West High, with the girls playing at 5:30 p.m. and the boys at 7:30 p.m.

The CIC and Northern Lights Conference will each advance two boys teams and two girls teams to the state tournament; the Mid-Alaska Conference and Southeast Conference get once apiece. Two at-large berths are available beyond the six automatic berths are filled.

Tuesday’s girls games

5:30 p.m. — Eagle River at Chugiak

5:30 p.m. — Service at South

Tuesday’s boys games

7:30 p.m. — Bartlett at West

7:30 p.m. — Eagle River at Service
