The Juneau Huskies are getting Alaska high school football’s version of a 1-2 punch.
The Huskies -- a co-op team that includes players from both of Juneau’s high schools -- faced the No. 2 team in the state last week, falling 49-23 to the West Eagles in Anchorage.
Now, they face the No. 1 team in the state, the East Thunderbirds, who will travel to Juneau for a Saturday afternoon Cook Inlet Conference game.
Juneau is 2-1 in conference and overall play, with decisive wins over Colony (53-12) and Dimond (35-6). East has outscored opponents 154-70 while going 3-0 overall, 2-0 in the CIC.
Week 4 of the season begins Thursday night with a nonconference game between Wasilla and Colony at Wasilla High.
COVID-19 continues to make an impact, with at least two of this weekend’s games canceled -- West Valley at Chugiak and Barrow at Nikiski.
