West Eagles fend off Service for five-set volleyball victory

Xainalyn Paul racked up 13 kills and 20 digs to help the West Eagles hold off the Service Cougars in five sets Friday in Cook Inlet Conference volleyball action 25-22, 25-12, 19-25, 26-28, 15-11.

Salvation Elia added 15 kills, Hazel Allen provided 30 digs and five aces, and Quincy Brown had nine kills and eight blocks for the Eagles.

Service, which roared back after losing the first two sets, was led by Autumn Kirkpatrick’s 18 digs and five aces, Collette Carpenter’s 11 kills and 12 digs, and Ashley Hayes’ eight kills, seven digs and three aces.

In other CIC contests, South beat Chugiak in four sets and East swept Eagle River. No score was reported for the Dimond-Bartlett match.

South downed Chugiak 26-24, 25-22, 23-25, 25-15 behind a 22-kill, eight-dig night from Hanna Henrie. Other leaders for the Wolverines included Tracy Rasavong (17 assists, 6 kills), Elizabeth Johnson (23 digs, 3 aces) and Sophia Olsen (5 aces).

In East’s 25-21, 25-15, 25-22 win over Eagle River, Avery Northcutt supplied nine kills and five blocks and Amaya Fields had eight kills.
