Wasilla goaltender makes US roster for international hockey tournament

A goaltender who helped the Colony Knights orchestrate a big upset at the 2020 state high school hockey tournament will help mind the net for Team USA at an upcoming junior tournament.

Bryant Marks of Wasilla is one of three goalies to make the 23-man roster for the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, which is scheduled for Aug. 2-7 with games in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

The Under-18 select team was chosen from a pool of players who participated in a recent USA Hockey player development camp.

Marks, 17, spent last season playing in the Fox Motors Hockey Club in Michigan. The year before, he was a Colony sophomore whose 44 saves led the Knights to a double-overtime, opening-round upset of second-seeded Dimond at the 2020 Alaska high school hockey tournament.

The Hlinka Gretzky Cup dates back to 1991. This year’s tournament will include teams from Czech Republic, Finland, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States. The American have won 13 medals at the tournament, including gold in 2003.
