Anchorage Wolverines junior hockey team grabs first franchise win

A third-period goal from Jackson Krock lifted the Anchorage Wolverines junior hockey team to its first victory in franchise history Thursday night in Blaine, Minnesota.

The Wolverines grabbed a 2-1 win over the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks at the NAHL Showcase. Anchorage is 1-1 in the North American Hockey League heading into a Friday game against the Wichita Warriors.

Danbury (0-4) struck first to seize a 1-0 lead after the first period.

Anchorage tied it in the second period with a goal from Drake Albers off an assist from Alexander Babich. Colin Hedland and Campbell Cichosz assisted on Krock’s game-winner.

Hedland, a defenseman from Anchorage, is one of 10 Alaska players on the team’s 29-man roster. Rosters must be cut to 25 players by Oct. 1 and eventually trimmed to 23.
