Palmer's Shawn McTaggart seizes women's title in Hawaii's Hurt 100-Miler

Palmer's Shawn McTaggart won the women's title in the Hurt 100-Mile Endurance Run near Honolulu on Sunday, when she beat a trail-running legend.

McTaggart, 39, covered the course that almost entirely consists of technical, single-track trails, not to mention a combined 24,500 feet of elevation gain and descent, in 29 hours, 4 minutes, 39 seconds.

That performance allowed her to top runner-up Nikki Kimball (29:46:31), 45, of Bozeman, Montana. Kimball has won dozens of endurance races, including such storied events as the Western States 100-Miler (three times) in California, the Leadville 100-Miler in Colorado and the Ultra-Trail Du Mont Blanc 166-kilometer (103 miles) race in the Alps.

McTaggart is no neophyte. She owns the course record (22:01:36 in 2014) in the Resurrection Pass 100-Miler.

She's also won the Hatcher Pass Marathon several times and won races such as the Kesugi Ridge 30-miler, the Frosty Bottom 50-Miler and the Little Su 50K.

McTaggart finished 10th overall in the Hurt 100. The race consisted of five laps of a 20-mile course.
