2 Alaskans cracked the top 15 in their age group at Boston Marathon

Two Alaskans finished in the top 15 in their age groups at Monday's Boston Marathon.

Seventy-one-year Irene Taylor of Anchorage placed ninth in her age group, and 42-year-old Jerry Ross of Anchorage placed 15th in his.

Ross was the fastest of Alaska's 24 men and 15 women who completed America's most famous race, held amid pouring rain, strong winds and temperatures ranging from the high 30s to mid 40s.

He placed 241st overall in a time of 2 hours, 43 minutes, 33 seconds. Along with Ben Ward (2:57:41) and Patrick Conway (2:59:52), he helped the Alaska Endurance Project place eighth among 77 masters men's teams.

The fastest Alaska woman was Keri McEntee of Fairbanks, who clocked 2:55:57 to finish 1,147th overall in the 26.2-mile race.

The Alaska Endurance Project team of Laura Fox (3:01:16), Madison Pachoe (3:17:18) and Samantha Longacre (3:19:46) placed 13th among 64 women's open teams.
