U12, U14 Alpine skiing state championships awarded

Hilltop Ski Area hosted the State Championship Alpine races for U12 and U14 competitors March 31 and April 1.

Giant slalom was held Saturday and slalom was Sunday. Each event had two runs.

Taking the overall championships were Madison Allard in U12, Megan Gamez in U14, Jaxon Murphy in U12 and Daniel Ferucci in U14. Ferucci edged Finnigan Donley in a tiebreaker. The overall championships were based on how the skiers fared in all four of their runs during the event.

In the U12 girls giant slalom Allard bested the field by more than 2 seconds in 1 minute, 40.81 seconds with Ava Austerman finishing second (1:43.11). For the boys, Murphy (1:42.73) edged Carson Engstorm by .71 of a second (1:43.44).

Gamez beat Georgia Lantz by 1.15 seconds in the U14 giant slalom (1:33.50 to 1:34.65). Ferucci (1:33.52) defeated Donley (1:33.95) by less than half a second in the boys race.

Lili Boshell won the U12 slalom in 1:56.48. Allard was more than 2 seconds behind (1:58.67) to finish second. Gabriel Sullivan smoked the field (2:00.39), winning the boys race by more than 7.5 seconds. Dylan Autrey was second in 2:07.98.

Gamez topped the leaderboard in the U14 slalom winning by just over one second (1:58.24). Ava Schweiger finished second in 1:59.25. Donley won the boys race over Ferucci 1:56.77 to 1:57.19.
