Ski 4 Kids is Saturday at Kincaid Park

The annual Ski 4 Kids, an event designed to introduce children to cross-country skiing and other winter sports, is Saturday at Kincaid Park.

It runs from noon to 3 p.m. and is open to kids 14 and younger. Donations are accepted in lieu of a registration fee, and kids can sign up in advance online at the Nordic Skiing Association of Anchorage website or the day of the event from noon to 1:15 p.m. at the Kincaid chalet.

Along with a timed 3-kilometer race (advance signup required), there will be a shorter, untimed race as well as a variety of other activities, including obstacle courses, fat-tire biking, sit-skiing and mock biathlon.

Proceeds go to the NSAA’s grant program, which helps provide ski equipment to schools and youth organizations. Last year, grants were awarded to Chinook Elementary, Susitna Elementary, East High, the Rilke Schule German Charter School and Anchorage Parks and Rec. About $5,000 is raised each year.
